Welcome to The Girl Can Paint.
I am new to the world of painters. But, not to the world of art.
An artist to the core... I have spent the last 13 years exploring different forms of art - Starting with writing.
A natural at the written word, I spent most of high school excelling in everything written, and slacking in, well, everything else.
Post high school, I went to college to pursue a career in education. I wanted to teach others to explore the world of grammar and punctuation.
After only one term of my education pre-requisites, I realized, I didn't want to be a teacher. I wanted to teach, but not in a generic "school" setting. Maybe in workshops and other creative atmospheres, but not a school.
So, I bounced around between interior design, commercial design, journalism, furniture crafting, website design and graphic design. Finally, I made a decision... I wanted to be an artist (duh), but I didn't want to be the cliche "starving artist". So, I got my bachelor's degree in Business, focusing in Marketing and minoring in Entrepreneurship. Seemed smart.
Now, three years after graduation, I'm working at a lawfirm as an administrative assistant. Not my dream job, but it pays my bills and allows me to have weekends free for craft shows and our local Saturday Market during the summer. Plus, my boss is pretty great. I'll stay there for a while, until I figure out my next move.
The dream is to find my niche. I did my first craft show just 2 years ago, selling handmade jewelry and handbags. I love making these things. However, I soon realized, everyone likes making these same items. I needed something different. Something that will help me stand out, and that people will actually want to buy. So, I designed some unique photo holders. My first summer at Saturday Market, this item did great. I sold a ton of them. The only problem: they were very time-intensive. My second summer, I was working full-time, on top of doing the Saturday Market, and it was just too much. Not enough hours in the day.
So, I switched gears and came up with something new - I designed stencils and did a fun new version of tie-dying on clothing. They were really fun to make, and people were constantly complimenting me on them. However, even though compliments are great, people weren't buying them as often as I'd hoped. I'm still making them and trying to sell them online and at the Market. But, I now know that I need something, in addition to the clothes, to make the money that I want to make.
I love to paint, and I've been told I'm pretty good at it. So, this is the beginning of yet another adventure for a girl that can paint.
Thanks for stopping by. I will have paintings up for sell very soon. I hope you like them and maybe one will really speak to you and you will want it for your own.
Have a great day!
